What’s New:

We are thrilled to have Snow Farm Vineyard back on the market this week. Snow Farm Vineyards are true ‘Vermont Pioneers’: They were the first commercial grape vineyard in Vermont, established in 1996. They are located in South Hero, and if you don’t have a chance to visit their winery this summer, come out to the Westford Farmers’ Market and taste their wines here.
They also make a great gift - after all, who expects Vermont to produce some great Pinot Noir?
What’s Available:

As we are moving towards July, we’ll have more veggies coming to the market, like early spring greens and spicy radishes. Don’t like the pungent taste of radishes? If you slice them thinly, arrange them on a plate, sprinkle some sea salt on them and let them sit for 10 minutes or so. They are now almost sweet and very juicy. Put some good butter on a slice of fresh, hearty bread (e.g. rye bread), place the radish on top of it and add some fresh pepper; it’s a meal in itself.

In Europe, this is called “Brotzeit” (“time for bread”) and in the summer it’s typically enjoyed with a cold wheat beer or a glass of a mix of a hoppy lager and sparkling lemonade for lunch or early dinner.

Music This Week:

We’ll have Rob Desaro and his daughter Sophie Desaro playing this Friday, June 19. Listen to some samples of his music at http://cdbaby.com/cd/dasaro2 and come out to hear him live tomorrow on the Westford Common. We are looking forward to some great music.

Check back for the next newsletter when we’ll announce some events planned for the summer plus we start to introduce our Farmers’ Market Vendors, so you know where the food comes from.

See you at the market!

We will be back for another season of fresh produce, homemade goods & breads, beautiful crafts and some exciting events and activities throughout the summer.

We will not only bring you local foods & crafts, but also music and activities on Friday afternoons. We think that market days should be a true community event; one that invites locals and visitors alike to stop by. We are planning to have music, a children’s day, cooking demonstrations, a Harvest Festival and much more later this summer.

The Westford Library will be open on Friday afternoon until 6pm

More great news: We are one of the Vermont Farmers’ Markets that received a mini-grant from the Northeast Organic Farming Association of Vermont this year.

In this grant, 37 Vermont Farmers’ Market were awarded a total of $85,079 to support their markets’ long-term growth and stability.

We received a relatively small amount, but we are still very excited that the Westford Farmers’ Market has been awarded this grant for the first time. We are now able to support initiatives towards website development and maintenance, provide more infrastructure for the market, and fund a manager stipend.

Make sure to check back for more information and email us if you want to receive our newsletter: info@westfordfarmersmarketvt.org

Please support your farmers market by visiting us this summer and help spread the word - see you on the Common!
